HMNZS Moa

The recently launched Moa fitting out at the Robb shipyard in Scotland. The Bird-class ships were to have a 2-pounder anti-aircraft gun aft, but shortages saw them depart with nothing better than Lewis machine guns. The lack of decent anti-aircraft batteries plagued New Zealand’s British-designed ships during the Pacific War.

I live in New Plymouth, NZ, and have written five books, four of which are on the Pacific War. I am now doing research about the NZ corvettes that served in the Pacific and would like to make contact with veterans and/or relatives of men who served on them. All of my books are listed on amazon, I can be Googled and I have a web site if interested: voicesfromthepacificwar.com

My father served on this vessel, sadly he is no longer with us. He used to recall the good times they all had. I believe they were granted freedom of the city. I think it was Auckland. I have just watched to video of the wreck, I found it very interesting, Dad would have loved to have seen it. He passed away 6 years ago. He shared his name with me, only his middle name is different, Edward. So his full name was Charles Edward Collyer. Thank you for letting me share my thoughts with you.

What do you know?
