Portait of Wiremu (Wī) Pere, circa 1885.

A runholder and politician, Pere was of mixed Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki, Rongowhakaata and European descent. He represented Eastern Maori in the House of Representatives from 1884 to 1887, and again from 1893 to 1905.
