Māori and Pākehā relations in the twentieth century
NZHistory.net.nz has a number of features and resources to support those using the context of the relationship between Māori and Pākehā in the twentieth century to examine historical events or places of significance to New Zealanders. As well as considering the impact of such events on New Zealand society these case studies are perfect for examining historical perspective and make ideal research topics.
In broad terms this material considers the relationship between Māori and Pākehā before the Second World War and the changes to that relationship which arose as a consequence of the wartime experience both here and abroad. A significant volume of work then addresses some of the key issues which emerged after 1960 centred largely on redressing past grievances associated with breaches of the Treaty of Waitangi and the ongoing place of the Treaty in New Zealand society.
