Salvation Army homes were the only option for many 19th-century orphans and abandoned children. Institutional life could be highly regimented: in this image residents of the Salvation Army Boys' Home in Eltham line up to salute a visitor to the institution.

EBH is Eventide boys home which was the name I recall
Hi My father Arthur James Baker was in this home from about 1935 to 1944 and has recently passed on, what he has in his possession was some sort of badge or award with EBH on one side and AJB on the other is any one able to help as to what this was for, I have a picture of it. It is posted on facebook.
Hi Mark, Thanks very much for this - the 1909 date is confirmed by PapersPast among other things, so I've changed the caption accordingly. Jamie Mackay, Web editor.
Hi,
My Grandfather, Charles Turkingon's, brother Samuel Turkington emigrated to New Zealand in 1897, with his wife, Mary Anna and two children James and Mary Ann.
Eileen Olivette Turkington was born in New Zealand on the 13th March 1904. After her father, Samuel was killed in horse and trap accident in 1912 and her mother died months after, Eileen was adopted by the Jenkins family of Eltham. Eventually Eileen became a matron at an orphanage.
Was this the orphanage she was the matron of?
is there any records of her being there?
I am putting togather my family tree and would be grateful for any information.
Kind regards
Bob Ferris
