Girls with Sprint bicycle

Many Kiwi children cycled to school or for general recreation. Bikes were also essential for those seeking to earn some money from a paper run. The sign behind this 1978 photo of three girls states that the ‘Paper Boy of the Year’ award is soon to be presented. This Sprint bicycle has ape-hangers, a banana seat and shift gears; only a Chopper was better. More sensible riders made the Raleigh 20 one of the biggest-selling bikes of the period.
