Major-General Andrew Hamilton Russell at New Zealand Divisional Headquarters, Bus-les-Artois, France, on 21 May 1918. During the First World War Russell led the New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade at Gallipoli before taking control of the New Zealand Division on the Western Front.
