Hi Brent - thanks very much for confirming this, I'll change the initial now. Regards, Jamie Mackay

I have seen a copy of the page of the petition which was signed by my great grandmother Fanny Selwyn. The page is in a church at Ferrymead Village in Christchurch. I have no doubt that the initial on the petition is an 'F' and not an 'L' and as it says above, my great gran was the only female Selwyn on the roll at the relevant time. Her husband Frederick would also be on the same roll. She came from Gloucestershire on the Lady Jocelyn in 1879 after earlier sailing to NZ on The Star of India in 1873 with her first husband, Tola Peachey who died a short time thereafter.
