Pani was a rangatira from Ngāti Rongonui and Ngāti Tama. He signed the Cook Strait (Henry Williams) Treaty of Waitangi sheet on 29 April 1840 at Port Nicholson.

He may have been Paruku Pani who was one of the signatories of McCleverty’s Deed which sold the Petone Block to the Crown in 1847.
