Ngā-raurēkau signed the Cook Strait (Henry Williams) Treaty of Waitangi sheet on 16 May 1840, at Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast. He may have been from Te Āti Awa.

Riwai te Ahu wrote to the Superintendent of Wellington in 1830 that Ngā-raurēkau had moved from Waikanae to Waitara to keep possession over it, in fear that Ngāti Maniapoto might return. [1]
