Huke signed the Waitangi sheet of the Treaty of Waitangi on 12 February 1840 at Mangungu in Hokianga. He was a rangatira (chief) from Te Uri Kāpana, Te Roroa, and perhaps Ngāti Pou and Ngāpuhi.

In 1834 Huke sold two pieces of land at Waimate to Reverend James Hamlin, who had founded the Waimate mission station in 1830. In September, a parcel of land called Takapūotehara was sold for one heifer calf, two axes, two iron pots, two hoes, two adzes and £6 5s. In October, 15 acres (6 ha) at Toutoka and Kōpuatemanga was sold for two axes, two hoes, two adzes, one iron pot, three blankets and £5.
