Kepa Waha signed the Treaty of Waitangi on 28 April 1840 at Kaitāia.
Kepa Waha’s name appears in the records of a number land purchases in the Far North before the treaty was signed. Kepa Waha and Rāwiri Tiro – described by the Waitangi Tribunal as ‘fighting chiefs’ – were stationed by Nōpera Pana-kareao at the Kaitāia mission station to protect the missionaries.
