Nga Tohu

In 1840 more than 500 chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand’s founding document. Ngā Tohu, when complete, will contain a biographical sketch of each signatory.

Te Tapuru signed the Waitangi sheet of the Treaty of Waitangi on 4 March 1840 at Karaka Bay in Tāmaki (Auckland). He may have been a Ngāti Pāoa rangatira (chief).

In 1839 Te Tapuru sold Ōneke on the Hokianga River to the European settler Frederick Maning for goods worth just over £100.
