Underarm bowling incident - short version

The underarm incident, 1 February 1981

With New Zealand needing a six from the final ball to tie the match at the Melborne Cricket Ground, the Australian captain, Greg Chappell, instructed his brother Trevor to bowl underarm to New Zealand’s no. 10 batsman, Brian McKechnie. While within the rules, this was considered unsporting. Not only is it is almost imposible to hit a six from a ball bowled underarm, this style of delivery had disappeared from serious cricket in the 19th century.
