Angel of the Annunciation by Colin McCahon

I think he meant to say, not just high art ( however, I reject that binary) and say comics are art. Moreover is it that very elitism of high art implied which McCahon was trying to avoid by using the speech bubble and comic style. It is its accessibility to reach a wider viewership.
