The burnt-out wreck of Zeppelin L-48 near Theberton, Suffolk, June 1917. British aircraft shot down L-48 on the night of 16/17 June. The destruction of this newer type of German airship showed that British defences were now a match for the once-feared raiders. German aircraft, however, continued to attack Britain well into 1918.
