The Wellington provincial war memorial in Karori Cemetery. The memorial lists both First and Second World War names of men from the district who have no known grave.
Shortly after the First World War the government decided to build four provincial memorials for those 'denied a known and honoured grave'. The Wellington memorial was built in 1930 or 1931, though the Depression and Second World War meant that work on the Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin memorials was delayed until the 1960s. Most of the men listed on the memorial died at sea, including many who died of influenza during the 1918 pandemic.
