THE RANGATIRA WAS SENT INTO SERVICE AFTER THE LOSS OF THE TURBO ELETRIC VESSEL WAHINE. SHE WAS ONE OF THE MOST UNNSECSESSFUL SHIPS ON THE LYTTLETON - WELLINGTON ROUTE AND SO THE SHIP WAS RETIRED AFTER FOUR SHORT YEARS OF SERVICE.
