Tauranga First World War memorial gates
Tauranga’s First World War memorial gates, at the entrance to the Tauranga Domain (now Wharepai Domain), were opened by Sir William Herries on 11 December 1921. The gates were restored in 2014.

* Sapper Michael Tobin is believed to be the first NZ soldier to die on the Western Front Although on this memorial he is listed as being killed in 1915, his date of death was actually 15 April 1916.
