The tiny rural St James Anglican Church in Church Road, Ardmore, displays two First World War rolls of honour. One is a polished brass tablet inscribed: “To the glory of God / and / in memory of / Sergt. W. Kearney / Pvt. G.H. Burnside / Pvt. F. McConaughy / Pvt. W.H. Henderson / Sergt. J.B. Campbell / Pvt. C. Campbell / The men of Ardmore / who lost their lives / in the service of / God and Empire / 1914 -1919.” The other is framed certificate with a handwritten list of the names of 33 men who enlisted, including the above-named.
