Searching for German Raider (1991), painted by RNZN artist, Colin Wynn.
HMS (later HMNZS) Leander had a quiet start to the war. In late September 1939, she was sent to Campbell Island and the Auckland Islands to search for German armed merchant raiders. Nothing suspicious was seen in either location. This painting shows the Leander steaming along the eastern side of Auckland Island in a gale.
