The war memorial gates at Rawene Cemetery. The gates list men from the district who died in the First and Second World wars. There is also a memorial flagpole within the cemtery.
The obelisk that can be seen in the image is a memorial to John Ernest Cochrane, who lost his life trying to save the life of a drowning boy, Maxwell Carkeek Carpenter, in 1911.

I have an up to date photo of the memorial taken this year. The picture above is not the memorial. The memorial are gates to the military cemetery. Would you like a copy of the photo.
The large obelisk memorial is that for John Ernest Cochrane (1879-1911) - not for the First World War.
