
This graph shows the number of NZEF personnel mobilised and embarked overseas as a percentage of total population and as a percentage of make population of military age (19-45 years).
It records that by the armistice in 1918 the total number of NZEF personnel was 124, 211 and that of these 100,444 had embarked for overseas service. This latter figure includes 1184 ‘miscellaneous’ personnel mainly shipped from New Zealand to Britain to join imperial units, who should properly be counted as part of those units rather than the NZEF. The most accurate figure for NZEF personnel who served overseas is therefore 98,950.
