Returned Niue servicemen line the wharf in Alofi for the arrival of the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, in 1926.
The photograph shows the official party approaching an archway and banner welcoming them to the island. One of the principal reasons for the visit was the unveiling of the Roll of Honour Boards listing all the men from Niue who had gone on active service. Lack of shipping meant the honour boards had to be crated and carried on HMS Diomede, which was also carrying the Governor-General. Fortunately, sea conditions permitted the unloading of the crates on arrival. The honour boards were unveiled in the church at Alofi on the second day of the visit.
