The grounds of Nelson airport contain two aviation-related memorials, both of which consist of plaques fixed to boulders. The first, dating from 1998, commemorates the presence of a former Royal New Zealand Air Force base on the site. The second, from 2005, commemorates the first fatal air accident involving passengers on a scheduled flight in New Zealand, which occured nearby on 7 May 1942.
