The war memorial at Matihetihe school, near Mitimiti marae. The renowned artist Ralph Hotere was born near here and his brother, Jack, is commemorated on the memorial.
Ralph's 'Sangro' series of paintings, begun in 1962, are a tribute to his brother, who was killed at the Sangro River on 23 December 1943.
