Mangatangi-Miranda roll of honour

Mangatangi Hall memorial

The Mangatangi-Miranda Second World War roll of honour hangs in the Mangatangi community hall, just north of the intersection of the Mangatangi and Kaiaua Roads. The hall was not itself built as a war memorial, but was first opened in 1940, and was reopened after extensive additions in 1960.

The roll of honour lists the names of seven local men killed in action and the names of 11 other men who served overseas.

The surnames of those who were killed are the same as those on the Miranda roll of honour in the Miranda cemetery war memorial, some distance away down the Miranda Road. However, the Miranda roll of honour gives both extra initials and ranks, corrects the name H. Phipps to H.L Philp, and adds the name of K.T. Waata.
