Livingstone war memorial

Memorial at the old gold mining township of Livingstone, above the Maerewhenua River. 

The memorial looks like it would once have been in the school grounds. The old school building is there but all the land is now privately owned, including the plot the memorial is on.  

The memorial includes the name of Alexander Kennedy, who was awarded the Russian Medal of St George, 3rd class  - not 'Order of St George' as written on the plaque. (The plaque also suggests that Kennedy was awarded a Distinguished Conduct Medal, but we have found no evidence to support this.)

A memorial oak and wooden cross dedicated to Trooper Herbert William Lory is nearby.

Further to my other comment, The RSA were invited to rededicate this memorial in 2015. It was the first service in many years.

The building on the site is the school teachers' house. The school itself was relocated in the 1980s I believe. The memorial is definitely on the former school grounds.
