There are around 1500 paintings, drawings, cartoons and prints in New Zealand's National Collection of War Art (NCWA). The collection contains a mix of official war art, commissioned by the New Zealand forces or the New Zealand government, and unofficial art that has been collected or donated to the NCWA over the years. While the majority of these works were made by New Zealand artists or expatriates with strong ties to the country, the collection also contains international pieces (see examples above) that were donated to New Zealand following the First World War.
