THIS TABLET IS PLACED HERE IN MEMORY OF THOSE MEMBERS OF THE AUCKLAND GARRISON ARTILLERY WHO SERVED OVERSEAS IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918, AND OF THE 9TH HEAVY REGIMENT N.Z.A. AND THE R.N.Z.A. COAST CADRE FROM THIS DISTRICT, WHO SERVED OVERSEAS IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1939-1945, AND GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM
UNVEILED ON THE 23RD DECEMBER 1953 PRIOR TO THE FIRING BY THIS BATTERY OF THE ROYAL SALUTE TO HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND ON HER ARRIVAL IN NEW ZEALAND
