New Zealand gunners load a 6-inch Newton medium trench mortar near Colincamps during the German spring offensive on the Western Front, March-April 1918. The Newton mortar could fire eight 24 kilogram bombs a minute out to a range of 1700 metres. They were used by the New Zealand Division's medium trench mortar batteries from December 1917.
