Education Department roll of honour board

The Education Department unveiled a roll of honour board at its head office in Wellington following the First World War. This listed those who had died and those who had served. Six Education Department staff members had died:

  • Henry Bowie
  • Stanley Moore
  • Victor Ferguson
  • Eric St George
  • John Hendry
  • Herbert Wisely [elsewhere spelt Wiseley]

Many more people working in the wider education service had served and died. This board listed only included those employed directly by the department. Most people working in the education service, such as teachers, were employed by regional education boards, not the department (Native School teachers were employed directly). They are often commemorated alongside students on school roll of honour boards.

The board remains on display in the head office of the Ministry of Education
