The Durie Hill Memorial Tower was opened in 1925 to commemorate (as the plaque reads) the 513 young people from Wanganui and district who died in WWI. The tower is built of local shellrock.

Bloody good tower this one, I remember when my grand dad use to take me there when my mum was out of town. I don't remember what we did there but i remmeber he always bought me an icecream afterwards.
