Charles Heaphy's pen drawings show a cross-section of the defences at Te Ruki Kawiti's pā at Ruapekapeka, including palisades, ditches, buildings and tunnels. There is also a plan of the outer defences of the pā, showing palisades, wells, gates and buildings.
