Container ships at Aotea Quay

The Europe trade was fully containerised by 1984, when the Tolaga Bay, New Zealand Pacific and Mairangi Bay lined Wellington’s Aotea Quay. At the end of the 1990s another generation of ships replaced these 45-54,000-ton ships. More recent changes have seen Wellington’s trade shrink and move to generally smaller ships.
