A Royal Naval Air Service Wight floatplane, Admiralty Type 840, at Dunkirk, circa 1916. Seaplanes such as these served at Gallipoli and helped patrol the English Channel and North Sea. The Wight was gradually superseded by more robust aircraft such as the Short 184 and the Felixstowe flying boat.
