Founded in Wolverhampton England in 1781, Briscoes was an International company at the start of the First World War with branches in London, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill. They traded mainly in building supplies, and also organised contractors and tradesmen such as Ironmongers, Fitters, Tile layers, Steel ceiling fixer, Roof Tiler, Carpenter, Hardware assistant, Shipping clerk and Warehouse-man among others. They also traded household goods, crockery, cutlery etc. much like today.

This First World War Honours Board appears to have been signed by Sir Douglas Haig with the message "A most glorious record - Haig of Bemersdale - F.M. 3rd. Feb. 1922."

The board is located in the office foyer of Briscoes, 36 Taylors Road, Morningside, Auckland.
