Bombay South African War memorial

In May 1903, friends and relatives of Troopers Bertram Oscar O'Neil and John Thompson Manning, who had served in the South African war, erected an obelisk in their memory in the cemetery of St Peter's in the Forest Anglican Church, Bombay. Trooper Manning had died on the troopship coming back from the war, while Trooper O'Neil had died at the quarantine station in Wellington. Troopers of the Pukekohe Mounted Rifles were present at the unveiling. In 1909 an inscription to commemorate Thomas O'Neill, Bertram's father, was added.
