Hawke's Bay launches an attack during their infamous 'Battle of Solway' Ranfurly Shield challenge against Wairarapa in 1927. The Magpies won the game 21–10 but Wairarapa controversially kept the shield because Hawke's Bay's Wattie Barclay (pictured above next to the referee) was later ruled to have been ineligible to play on residential grounds.
