Anthony Frederick Wilding, c 1910. At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, where New Zealanders competed as part of an Australasian team, Wilding won the bronze medal in the men’s singles.
Wilding, who won four successive Wimbledon titles between 1910 and 1913, remains New Zealand's most successful tennis player. In 1915 he was killed in France while serving with British forces in the First World War.
