There is WW1 memorial that is onsite at the Albany Senior High School, site of the original Albany School. Five trees were planted for five students who were killed in the WW1. The sixth tree was planted for a student who was killed in the Boer War. The memorial originally had a WW1 machine gun on the plinth but it was taken down in WW2 as it was deemed not appropriate to have it there. It has never been found. The plinth now has a plaque on it. You cannot access the memorial as it is land that is a breeding place for an endangered lizard.
This Albany War Memorial Library was opened by Their Excellencies the Governor General, Lord Jellicoe and Lady Jellicoe on 21 December 1922.It was designed by Auckland designer Sholoto Smith. The construction cost of the memorial library and the stone wall was 438 pounds which was funded by donations. Inside a Roll of Honour hangs over the mantlepiece and records the names of all the 23 young men of Albany, Dairy Flat and Greenhithe who lost their lives in the WW1 battle. There is a second Roll of Honour for the 7 men from the area who lost their lives in WW2
