Township on the south side at the head of Herekino Harbour, Northland, about 13km south-east of Ahipara.
Meaning of place name
Name means 'badly tied', associated with a local maori legend about a captive who was tied up to be eaten the next day but because of a badly tied knot he was able to free himself and escape.
