Libraries

National Collections

  • Alexander Turnbull Library holds New Zealand's national heritage documentary heritage collections.  The Turnbull Library collections are based on Turnbull's personal collection of books, manuscripts, photographs, paintings and sketches, and over time the collections have grown to contain millions of items. These include books, magazines and journals, pamphlets, newspapers, maps, music, websites, and unique archival collections such as original manuscripts, oral histories, photographs, paintings, drawings, prints, and cartoons.  Collections can be accessed via the National Library Online Channel, where you can browse more than 300,000 New Zealand and Pacific images. Other online resources include PapersPast, an online collection of 19th century newspapers, TAPUHI an online search facility that provides detailed access to descriptions of archival collections.  Using the Alexander Turnbull Library provides guidance on how to access the collections.   • Antarctic Heritage Trust (AHT) -NZ-based international trust which has undertaken responsibility for the preservation and protection of the historic sites of Antarctica, and in particular the 'heroic-era' bases in the Ross Sea region which have very strong links to NZ.
