Blair Peach killed in London

1979 Blair Peach killed in London

New Zealander Blair Peach was killed during a clash between police and protesters at an anti-fascism rally in Southall, London. The 33-year-old special-needs teacher and member of the Anti-Nazi league suffered head injuries and later died in hospital. A primary school in Southall was named in his memory.

A metropolitan police report finally released in 2010 concludes Peach almost certainly died as a consequence of being hit on the head by a policeman.

The Prince and Princess of Wales played with their infant son Prince William and New Zealand's iconic children's toy, the 'buzzy bee', on the lawn at Government House, Auckland. It was one of many photo opportunities the Prince and Princess of Wales undertook during their Royal Tour of New Zealand between 17 and 30 April 1983.
