Trooper Harry Corbett and camel

Trooper Harry Corbett prepares to mount his camel. Corbett left New Zealand in October 1916 with the 17th Reinforcements, New Zealand Mounted Rifles. On arrival in Egypt he transferred to the Imperial Camel Corps and served as a New Zealand camelier in the Palestine campaign.

Once camels were barraked (made to kneel down) they became quite docile which made it a relatively easy task for one man to look after up to a dozen camels while their riders dismounted and went into action.
