Do you remember? To coincide with the visit of Queen Elizabeth II to New Zealand in February 2002, we invite you to remember earlier visits to New Zealand by Her Majesty. We are keen for you to participate in creating this exhibition by recalling an amusing or revealing story of an earlier royal visit.
People wave to the Queen and Duke as the royal train rushes by.

We are particularly interested in the Queens first visit in 1953-54, partly because this was the first time a reigning British monarch had been on New Zealand soil and partly because that tour was a huge public event which is an enduring memory for most New Zealanders over the age of 55. To provide background to this event and to jog your memories, this exhibition provides an itinerary of the Queen and Prince Philips journey and explores some of the themes expressed in that tour.
