Transferred to NZ government from British Ministry of Transport in 1951; made its first voyage carrying assisted immigrants in July 1952. After 12 voyages to NZ it was laid up in 1958, and broken up in 1959.
There's more information about it, and from people who travelled to NZ in it, in my book, Long Journey for Sevenpence: Assisted immigration to New Zealand from the United Kingdom, 1947-1975 |

Hi Margaret, the book might be out of print now but you could try your bookseller. You've got the title and author, and it was published by Victoria University Press in 1999. ISBN 0-86473-360-7.

Megan,
Many thanks for your info. I hot-footed it down to local library, and there it was all the time. I also got "New Zealanders by choice". Enjoying both books. Thanks again |
