British immigrant children arriving on board the ship Rangitata
This is a close-up shot of a section of two decks. On the upper deck a group of children of various ages and sizes are leaning on the safety railing. Some are looking down on the scene below while others are looking at the camera. Some of the smaller ones have climbed up on to the first or second bars of the railing to get a better view. On the lower level are mainly adults milling around apparently unaware of the camera taking the photo. Most of the men and women are wearing hats and a coats — some of the women are in furs. Most of the boys are in shorts and the girls skirts; all the children are wearing jackets or coats (but only a couple wear hats).

Arrival of British children on board the Rangitata
The view is of a group of children arranged in a rough horseshoe shape on the ship's wooden decking. Behind the children there is a line of adults and then a metal stairway going up to the next deck where some older children are watching. The photo is posed and many of the children have their thumbs up and have big smiles on their faces. The boys are in shorts and the girls skirts; all are wearing warm coats or jackets. To the left of the scene, a man in a suit and hat is pulling on one of the ropes in the foreground.

Emigrate to New Zealand poster
This poster is addressed 'To single men and women'. The heading urges them to 'Emigrate to New Zealand...for a NEW way of life'. Then in smaller font is written the following: 'New Zealand has a place for YOU in her future development. There are many jobs awaiting the new settler.
For MEN — Building, Engineering, National Development and Farming
For WOMEN — Nursing, Factory, Domestic and Office.
If you are under 36 enquire about the Free and Assisted Passages being offered to single British men and women by calling on or writing to the Chief Migration Officer, New Zealand Government Offices, 415 Strand, London, W.C.2.'
On the left hand side of the poster are three highlighted phrases, each on a black background. These proclaim 'Good Jobs', 'Good Pay', 'Good Living'. From the top right corner to the bottom left of the poster is a diagonal line with a cartoon of an ocean liner with clouds above it at one end and a map of New Zealand at the other. Along the bottom of the poster are two lines of decorative wave pattern.

Kindergarten group at a Polish refugee camp, Pahiatua
Seven little girls and one boy, all aged about five or six, line up on the gravely yard where they have been playing outside the temporary barracks-like accommodation forming the backdrop to the photo. Other children in the background solemnly observe. All the girls have bobbed fringed hair topped with a large bow. They wear an assortment of summer clothes with bare tanned legs and shoes mostly worn without socks. They stand, squarely to the front, hands at their sides, serious but happy to be photographed. Two of the girls have half smiles showing gaps where they have lost their first teeth.

Children at Polish refugee camp, Pahiatua
Four boys are standing in front of a wooden farm gate while another boy and a girl are on top of it. They seem happy and are aware they are being photographed. Two of the boys in front are wearing berets and all are wearing shorts and jackets or jerseys. The girl is wearing a skirt and woollen cardigan. The boy standing on the gate looks the youngest and has bare feet while the other boys are wearing shoes. In the background there is a cottage and shed set among native trees.
