Sir
At the Auckland College of Education just up the road near the Mt Eden shops, there is a memorial to teachers or student teachers who made the supreme sacrifice during both World Wars. When they rebuilt the College there were the peaceniks who had it hiding away and it wasn't till there was a hue and cry by some past alumni that it was restored in a conspicuous place. The Memorial school gates which are an entrance to Auckland Normal Intermediate and the Teachers College used to be closed at sunset as a tribute to the dead. But the peaceniks won again and especially when the Intermediate was turned into an evening Community centre.People didn't have to walk as far when the gates were removed.
