Further to me original posting, I have been informed by a researcher at Kneller Hall, Twickenham, England, that James J. Stroud was not a student at the Royal Military School of Music but that his qualifications and ability must have been sufficient for him to audition and be granted a role in the Viceroy's Band in India. (I have a copy of his marriage certificate which states his employment as a Staff Sergeant and a member of the Viceroy's Band.
I also have been told he left Invercargill for Dunedin in his early teens, I am presuming he would have continued his schooling and musical training in Dunedin.
I would appreciate any leads for this blank period in his education history.
Cheers
