This article about Thames Valley’s most famous victory – over Australia, 16–14 – appeared in the New Zealand Herald, 19 September 1962.

This match, played the previous day, was the Wallabies’ final provincial match before the fourth and final test at Eden Park. Australia led 14–6 at halftime before the Swamp Foxes' T. E. Shaw completed the comeback when he kicked his second dropped goal from 40 m. Shaw had earlier converted tries scored by J.P. Maxwell and T.J. Kilpin.

Of course T E Shaw is the father-in law of the present Welsh and Lions coach, Warren Gatland.

My Mum and Dad have an audio tape of this game as My Dad was playing in it. Sounds like it was an exciting game.
